It’s the age of innocence when their eyes a little brighter and
their smile are full of possibilities. Their minds are being
shaped by everything around them and it’s important to make sure
that those surroundings are positive and promote good character
traits.

The question is are toys and video games the right Christmas
gift for kids? The simple answer - yes.

Creative Development

Children love toys and they love to play video games.
Imagination is the greatest gift that we can give our children
and toys are essential to their creative development. With so
many toys on the market, it’s difficult to choose which are best
for our little ones during this holiday season. The best way to
know is to ask your child to write a Christmas list. Go over the
list and make sure that everything will be a positive learning,
or playful, experience for your child. Avoid buying anything
with an implication of violence or negative influences, which is
sometimes present in current video games.

Promote Healthy Competition and Creativity

On the other hand... Video games can offer a very positive
learning experience if selected carefully. They have the ability
to promote healthy competition and creativity. If a child fails
to achieve the next level in a video game, they are forced to
come up with more creative ways to move forward. This creativity
can lead to a wonderful imagination in all areas of life. Video
games can also promote persistence and shows a child that
patience is a key factor in achieving any goal. If a child
begins playing a video game and stays with that game until
he/she defeats it, this promotes patience, determination and
intelligence. The child will learn that, if he/she works hard
enough, they can achieve anything. This will carry over into
other aspects of life and will be a positive experience. The
most important thing is, that now, the child is simply having
fun and doesn’t even realize how beneficial a creative mind can
be. They don’t realize that they are learning and, to them,
they’re just enjoying their toys.

Promote Sharing

Toys and games are terrific Christmas gifts for kids also
because they promote sharing while keeping the child entertained
and happy. Some toys promote learning, such as math and board
games. Others, such as building blocks, promote creativity and
the ability to build things on their own. A karaoke unit could
help a child overcome shyness while a Barbie doll will allow a
child to make up story lines and create fictional events.

Age Recommendations

Before choosing any toys or games as Christmas gifts for kids,
make sure to read the age recommendations printed on the box or
noted in the description. It’s important that the age
recommendations match that of your child for safety reasons. If
a toy needs batteries, don’t forget to include them in the box.

Unconditional Love

Keeping in mind that children are very influential, the best
gift that we could ever give is unconditional love. Perhaps you
can’t wrap it up or even add a fancy red bow, but that just goes
to prove that the best things in life really are free.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas already. Thousands
of people have started Christmas shopping early due to the
economic situation. It's much easier to spread out christmas
shopping over months instead of waiting until December. Even
Walmart recognized the situation for shoppers by lowering prices
on the most popular toys early starting October 10th.

There are thousands of lists throughout the web that are
specifically geared for specific people. Stocking Stuffers for
him, for her, for teens, golf lovers, coffee lovers and so on
and so forth. Are there any lists that have universal stocking
stuffers that can be used for anyone? In an attempt to make
shopping a little easier, I've put together a list of things
that you can put in any stocking!

Gift Certificates: Maybe not always the most thoughtful gift,
but it works well for stockings. You can always buy thoughtful
gifts to go under the tree. Find a gift certificate to the
person's favorite store or a place they frequent often. A
Starbucks gift card would be great for someone who has to have
their morning Venti White Chocolate Mocha before a hard days
work at the office. Or perhaps an Itunes gift card for your
teens so they can download the latest album from their favorite
band! Those type of gift cards you would not have to add a lot
of money either, maybe $10 to $15.

Batteries: You know you will end up having to buy them anyway
for the the oodles of toys under the tree, the handheld poker
game for your husband or the new watch for your sister who can
never seem to get to family events on time. You might as well
put them in a stocking instead of wrapping them separately.

Ornaments: This is more of a thoughtful gift and one my own
family practices. Each year my husband and I buy each other an
ornament. You can find websites online that will allow you to
put a digital picture on an ornament for memories and some allow
text also. Imagine "Our 1st Christmas" "Baby's 1st Christmas"
and so on. They create lasting memories for everyone. This is
great for kids in multiple ways also. Usually at school kids
will create little ornaments for their parents out of clay,
paper, or popsicle sticks that they could put in their parents
stocking. Also by getting your kids an ornament every year, by
the time they move out, they will have a bunch of ornaments that
they could put on their own tree! It's also a great way to
remember your phases or hobbies since their are ornaments for
everything from Bob the Builder to your favorite football team.

Event Tickets: Tickets are a great thing to stuff in a
stocking. Mainly because they are small and cover every hobby,
like or passion you can think of. Concert tickets for your 17
year olds favorite band. Movie tickets to the latest Pixar movie
for your kids. Sporting event tickets to a hockey game for your
husband. Event tickets to a craft expo for your wife. You could
even give Lottery tickets if you have a family member who likes
to play the lotto. Whatever your family's passion you can find a
ticket to cover it.

Chocolates and Candy: Always great as a filler, for the
stocking anyways, not so much for your tummy. This would also be
great to put in different types of chocolate or candy you might
not always buy. Like green tea flavored Kit Kats from Japan.
I've tried them and absolutely love them! You can't buy them in
the U.S. to my knowledge but that is the beauty of online
shopping. Find something unique and different, but make sure to
throw in a candy cane or two just in case the unique candy you
picked out wasn't as appealing to their taste buds as it was
your eyes!

Magazine Subscriptions or Books: As I'm sure you know there is
a magazine for any topic you desire. Get a subscription to fit
your family's hobbies. Books are great as well at least
paperback novels, I think it might be difficult to put a large
book in a stocking. You can find books from their favorite
author, or books for your children, some of the older Beatrix
Potter books are stocking stuffer size. Even if you have a baby
or toddler, buy board books for them to look at and for you to
read to them!

Journals, Diary's or Planners: They are all along the same
theory, buy one that is useful for the person you are picking it
up for. A planner for mom or dad to keep track of the numerous
soccer meets or work meetings, maybe a diary for a little girl,
or even a small sketchbook for a boy or for small children to
scribble in. Give them something to be creative with or
something that is useful!

Craft Supplies or Pens: You can pick up different craft
supplies for kids, crayons, markers, scissors etc. Those things
could also be handy for moms as well! A nice ballpoint pen for
adults, because everyone needs something nice to use at work
that isn't going to run out of ink in a week.

Decorating Your Christmas Tree

Choose A Theme.

This is a matter of taste. Some people have beautifully
decorated trees that are a Hodgepodge of ornaments, themes,
colors and mementos collected over years.

If this is your first Christmas Tree and you do not have any
ornaments or mementos to add to it yet then start simple. Pick a
theme like Snowman Christmas Ornaments and choose a few and add
one or two colors of Glass Christmas Ornaments Balls to
compliment the selection. You can change the look each year by
adding something extra or even taking something away, as your
tastes and home change.

Adding Large Decorations.

After the lights are turned on, stand a few feet away from the
tree and squint. You will see where all the large holes are. You
can adjust the C7 lights to fill in where you can and then add
larger ornament balls, floral picks or other large ornaments to
the other spots. Some types of ornaments you could add here are
3-4 inch diameter ornament balls, any style ornaments that are
4-5 inches long or floral picks or bouquets.
Add more here!!!!!

Adding Garlands.

Next you add any Garlands you might like. These can be the
traditional Popcorn Garland, Cranberry Garland, Candy Garland,
Gingerbread Garland, Foil Garland or Tinsel Garland. You can
even add a green garland such as an Apple Garland with Pine
Cones. The rule of thumb is 2 yards of garland for every foot of
tree height.

Add the Green Garland first. Start at the top of the tree and
work you way down draping it in small curves that increase
gradually as you move down the tree. If you will also be adding
Popcorn, Cranberry or Crystal Mirrored Garland, then you will
want the Green Garland a little further back on the branch to
let the Bead Garland hang on the edge of the tips.

You can also use Unique Christmas Ribbon as garland. The rule
of thumb is the same and you add it to the tree in the same
general manner.

Adding Ornaments.

Once the Garland is in place hang your smaller ornaments as you
like. This is where you hang the smaller ornaments in your
chosen theme, such as Fish Ornaments, Military Nutcracker
Ornaments or Nutcracker Ballet Ornaments or Glass Christmas
Ornaments.

Finishing Touches.

There are many things you can add to the very ends of the tips
for special effects. If crystal will go with your theme you can
add crystal or crystal like icicles or even old fashioned tinsel
icicles.

this by decorating your home for Christmas.

When it comes to decorating for Christmas, there are many
individuals who place a focus on one room and one room only.
That room is likely the room in which their Christmas tree is
in. While it is important to decorate your Christmas tree and
the room that it is in, you should also think about decorating
the rest of your home. In a small amount of time, you can easily
show your appreciation for Christmas, in each and every room of
your home.

Since, the room in which your Christmas tree is in was already
touched on, it is best to focus on other rooms, besides your
living room, family room, or den. Perhaps, it is best to focus
on the bathroom. After all, it is one of the most used rooms in
any home. If you are interested in decorating your bathroom for

do more, you could also decorate your lawn for Christmas. A few
Christmas yard signs may be nice; however, you can go even
larger than that. There are a number of retail stores that sell
large inflatable Christmas trees, reindeer, or Santas. No matter
how much or how little decorating you do outside of your home,
it may be a good idea to showcase your love for Christmas to
your entire neighborhood.

The above mentioned Christmas decorating tips are just that,
tips. If you want to decorate your whole home for Christmas, go

Top Ten Christmas Gifts

A list of my top ten Christmas gifts may give you an idea for
your own Christmas shopping.

My Christmas gifts wishlist is a very long list. Condensing it
to the top ten Christmas gifts that I would like will take some
thought, but I will try, I have wanted a keyboard for quite a
while. I know some music, but I would just love to be able to
play some Mozart or Beethoven to help relax me and destress my
day. A keyboard and some sheet music would go a long way to
making me happy and my children sad.

Another gift that I would like is some classical music CD's.
Nothing obscure, but more in the vein of Mozart, Beethoven,
Choplin to help bring some calming influence into my chaotic
home. Practical gifts is what I would normally choose, however,
so a great pair of black leather boots would be wonderful to
wear with my jeans and skirts. They would also help to keep my
tootsies warm during the cold winter months.

Another somewhat practical gift is a few cashmere sweaters.
Bright colored, warm, soft sweaters are just the best during the
cold, drab winter months. A great warm, soft throw blanket is
wonderful, too. You also can't go wrong with some books. The
newest bestseller or a great cookbook would give me something to
do when it is too cold to be outside. Perfume would be great,
too, I have expensive tastes, however, so it will have to be
something French.

Food is the way to this person's heart. Hot chocolate, milk
chocolate, and anything chocolate is a good choice for me. A
good wine would be nice, too. You know it wasn't as difficult as
I thought it would be to narrow my list down. I am really not
that picky about what I like, as long as you give it with love
and keep the receipt!

I enjoy giving presents much more than I enjoy receiving. I
enjoy finding the thing that will make the gift receiver's eyes
light up. Yes, my family gives me a Christmas gifts list, but I
always buy a surprise or two that I know that they will love. I
might buy tickets to a show that they have been wanting to see
or a membership to a museum that they love to visit. I don't
really like to buy gift certificates. It just seems that you
just don't make the effort to determine what they would like,
but I have had to give them when I just cannot come up with
something special. The top Christmas gifts for children and
teenagers usually includes the latest computer games, music, or
technology gadget, but you can't go wrong with classic board
games, a train set, or a doll's house either. Choosing Christmas
gifts does not have to be difficult. Just do it with love and
you are sure to find a gift that they will love and enjoy!

Is your Christmas list starting to look like a telephone book?
It's time to consider making your own gifts. Here are several
easy ideas for wonderful homemade Christmas gifts.

* Winter Warm-Up Baskets with Homemade Marshmallows and Hot
Chocolate

You can purchase hand-crafted marshmallows in a gourmet store
like Williams Sonoma, for $15-$18 or simply make your own.

Place 4-6 marshmallows into a clear plastic bag and tie with a
decorative ribbon. Put the marshmallows in decorative fortune
cookie boxes (found at your local craft store) or put them in a
decorative basket with gourmet hot chocolate and holiday mugs.

Voila! You have gorgeous homemade Christmas gifts that look
like they came from an expensive gourmet shop.

* Homemade Picture Frame

Buy an inexpensive plastic picture frame from your local craft
store. Gather or buy plastic Barbie doll accessories, beads,
jigsaw puzzle pieces, scrapbooking embellishments and other
doo-dads that represent the interests of the recipient.

For example, for the gourmet cook, you could use plastic doll
cookie sheets and rolling pins. And get some cookbook and
baking-themed scrapbooking or card-making accessories from the
craft store.

Using hot glue or glue dots, glue the items around the border
of the frame.

Then put a special poem or message in the frame. Now you've got
a show-stopping homemade Christmas gift without the extravagant
price tag.

* Soup in a Jar

Get several clear mason jars and fill them with this layered
soup recipe:

Minestrone Soup in a Jar

1/4 cup red lentils
1/4 cup green split peas
1/4 cup barley
1/3 cup boullion powder
2 TBSP parsley flakes
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 tsp. basil
1/4 cup small pasta (macaroni, alphabet pasta or orzo)

Layer the ingredients in the order given (lentils on the
bottom). Put a decorative ribbon around the jar.

Attach this card with directions for making the soup:

Combine soup mix and 8-10 cups of water plus 1 28 oz can
crushed tomatoes in a large pot. Add 1 cup diced carrots and 1/2
cup celery. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for
an hour or until vegetables are tender.
